The Future of Studio Critique?
As many of you may already know, I have more than a passing fancy towards educational technology and the potential that it holds to transform studio based art education. I am particularly interested in streaming video and broadcast media distribution via the internet as well as communities of practice, knowledge management, social software and the social life of information.
Therefore, it was with great delight that I recently found out about Hellodeo.com, a website that allows you to quickly and simply create video snippets for blogs and webpages; all that you have to do is set up your webcam, hit the record button, post your file and paste their resultant html code into your site. Pretty cool, huh?
So here’s my mashup… I think this technology has potential in terms of creating online dialogues within the context of studio practice, particularly when thinking about the online studio critique. Imagine for a moment that we created a mechanism or a forum, perhaps very similar to an online discussion forum, by which people could respond to a group of digital images of work through a series of recorded video threads, like an ongoing conversation that also builds upon and captures the collective knowledge of the community.

I look forward to your responses and comments.
